Answering the Call: Cindy Wofford’s Heart for Mobile Response at Spero

When someone calls a Mobile Response line, they aren’t just looking for answers — they are reaching out for connection, hope, and a steady voice to help them through the toughest moments of their lives.

At Spero, that steady voice often belongs to Cindy Wofford, a Mobile Responder whose passion for helping others is matched only by her deep commitment to her work, her team, and her community.

After spending decades building a career in behavioral health in Southern California, Cindy made a bold move: relocating to Southern Minnesota in search of simplicity, community, and a renewed sense of purpose. In doing so, she found something special at Spero — a workplace that values compassion, collaboration, and the belief that every person deserves dignity and care.

“I love being the first person who can help regulate someone’s emotions, bring comfort, and guide them toward stability,” Cindy shares. “I’ve tried to step away from this field before, but every time, I come back. It’s a calling.”

As a daytime Mobile Responder and Stabilization Worker, Cindy’s role is dynamic and deeply human. Whether answering a call from the 988 line, helping someone find a safe place to stay, or supporting a client through their first steps toward therapy and community connection, Cindy’s approach is grounded in empathy. She doesn’t just offer immediate support — she walks alongside individuals, helping them access the long-term services they need to heal and thrive.

But Cindy’s work goes beyond mobile intervention. She believes in meeting the full spectrum of human need — sometimes that means driving a client to the food shelf, other times it’s helping them place positive affirmations around their home to rebuild self-worth. Every act, large or small, is fueled by her belief that hope is a practice, not just a feeling.

“At the end of the day, we’re only here to help people,” Cindy says, her voice full of emotion. “And at Spero, I see that commitment everywhere I look.”

A Culture of True Support

Transitioning into a new organization can be daunting, especially in a field as emotionally demanding as mobile response. But Cindy found something rare at Spero: a workplace where support is real, not just promised.

When unexpected challenges arose early in her tenure, the Spero team rallied around her — offering assistance, collaboration, and encouragement.

“I kept waiting for the shoe to drop… and it never did,” Cindy laughs. “The people here are truly in it for the right reasons. Everyone communicates. Everyone cares.”

At Spero, no one is left to shoulder the work alone. From mobile teams to case managers to therapists, the organization operates as a seamless web of support, ensuring that clients — and staff — always have someone to lean on.

A Future Built on Hope

The recent rebranding to Spero — which means hope — resonates deeply with Cindy’s personal and professional philosophy.

She sees it as more than just a new name; it’s a commitment to reaching more people, to innovating services, and to building an even stronger, more connected future for mental health care in Southern Minnesota.

“It’s a fresh start, a chance to touch even more lives,” Cindy reflects. “I’m excited about what’s ahead.”

In every conversation, every call, every quiet moment spent encouraging someone to believe in themselves again, Cindy Wofford embodies the spirit of Spero: a belief that hope, healing, and human connection can change lives.

Because at Spero, helping isn’t just what we do — it’s who we are.
